Ben's mother comes to the city, forcing the issue between Ben and Serena. Meanwhile, Russell Thorpe tries to destroy Chuck's family legacy, but then he has to risk his daughter Raina, in the process. Also, William van der Woodsen returns to the Upper East Side. Also the tension between Dan and Blair rises to an all new level.

Chuck is planning a party. Blair is still watching Chuck's every move but seems eerily ok with the whole thing. Serena gets a call from Vanessa and Ben continues to avoid her and Nate has found a new love interest in Raina.
Chuck approaches Thorpe, who seems to be rather calm given the circumstances and tells him that it is too early to gloat. He reveals to Chuck that Raina and Nate have been seeing a lot of each other. Blair and Dan have been hanging out together in secret and there are hints of some deeper feelings blossoming here, although both of them are denying it.
Ben has been blowing Serena off because his mother is in town. Lilly starts to worry about Ben after Vanessa tells her what she overheard (i.e. Ben was the one who had Nate's father beat up in prison). The affidavit is missing from Serena's dresser drawer.
Serena approaches Ben at the party and starts to accuse him of taking the affifavit but it turns out that Ben's mother went through her drawer and gave the document to Mr. Thorpe in order to get her son's life back. Thorpe tells Chuck he must hand over the company or Lilly is going to rot in jail.
Raina, as instructed by Chuck, was in hiding and heard her father as he told Chuck this. Disappointed, she storms out and Nate runs after her. Refusing to be blackmailed by Russel, Lilly reveals that she has already contacted the district attorney and will turn herself in.After she has left, Thorpe ends up telling Chuck that Bart Bass is responsible for his wife's death and he is out to get revenge.
Thorpe decides to return to Chicago, while Raina continues to stay at New York. Chuck, devastated at the piece of information Russel disclosed about his father, heads out to look for Blair, whom Serena said has gone home. He says that he needs to talk to her because she is "the only one that will understand".
Meanwhile, Dan is seen at Blair's apartment trying to find out whether there is something more between them. His way of being sure is for he and Blair to share a kiss.
